HISTORY:

Derica's specific origins are vague at best; the first thing she remembers is hiding in a tree when she was a tiny little thing. What she doesn't know is that both of her parents, Christine and Rupert, tragically died (as is possible for fairies, even if it's rare) and she lost her way trying to find them. Thankfully it was summer, so getting cold wasn't much of an issue. She couldn't tell you how long she was on her own, but she'll light up at the thought of telling you about the day when two men were out hiking and she spied them from her hiding place. She had a really good feeling about them, and so she hopped out of the tree. She didn't count on scaring them so much, and her as of yet uncontrollable empath powers almost had her in tears before the two men could calm her down. She snapped out of it rather easily, and suddenly was all smiles and hugs. After some confusions and some questions that made it clear that she didn't have a family to speak of, the two men thought that perhaps this was a sign; they had been talking about adopting a kid earlier that week, and in comes this strange, but loving little girl who clearly needs someone. So they took her home and after getting some affairs in order, she was legally Carlos' kid, and both men were determined to make sure this girl never wanted for anything.

Still, it can't be said it was all that easy. After all, not every little kid's going to be that openminded about the whole "two daddies" thing, or the fact that she seemed to know way too much about people. Plus there was that one time when some girl cornered her in the girl's bathroom being all, "Why are you so happy all the time?? It makes me want to beat you up!" Even harder was the day she found out that if anything happened to Carlos, Greg couldn't keep her. While she would have denied it under oath, she had several nightmares of being taken away from her family growing up. Childhood was a confusing time, especially since she knew she was different from everyone, with her fairy powers getting more potent. Thankfully, not everyone isolated her, and her very best friend was one Leo Wilde. The truth was, it was probably because they were both different. His mother never hid that he was special from him, and she knew he was gay as soon as he did. They, along with some other misfits or people nice enough to befriend misfits, got through elementary school.

By the time she was a teenager, she found a way to deal with it due to one major reason; it turned out that, in many cases,her friends needed just as much defense from bullies, perhaps even more, than she did. This brought out a side that very few people had ever seen before; Derica got angry. While it wasn't necessarily the scariest thing in the world, she made it clear that she wasn't going to let her friends take this. For the most part, they all stuck together, auditioning for school shows and partying about as innocently as you could in high school.

Unfortunately, there was one horrible Halloween when that just wasn't possible. When Leo got lost in the midst of a party, and the next time she saw him, she had a rare dark moment, thinking that she might never see him alive again. She didn't dare smile until she knew he was conscious. He survived his bashing, but unfortunately his leg got messed up in the process. Still, the experience only brought them closer, and they decided they were going to do whatever it took to go to college together.

That brings her over to Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Academy, which seems like exactly what she needs; a place to hone her passion for theatre, where people like her and Leo aren't the freaks...she's got a good feeling about this.

PERSONALITY:

For the most part, Derica has the optimism of a child and the heart of a mother. Many people don't really know what to make of her, especially since the theatre world can be as cut throat as it is; it almost seems like her sunshiney attitude has no place in the world of divas. Yet Derica knows that the world isn't always such a nice place, and doesn't pretend otherwise. If anything, it's this knowledge that makes her try even harder to be kind. There's nothing she hates more than people who make life harder for others, and she's very big on being a sort of defender for everyone who needs it.

In spite of her sunshiney attitude, there's always a part of Derica that is deathly afraid of being left alone. There's this constant fear in the back of her mind of being left behind, part of the reason why she feels the need to mother and help everyone. She just wants everyone to be happy and safe, which is why she's adopted a sort of "you can tell me anything, you know that right?' persona. She'll put aside her own feelings for the sake of others, which isn't always such a good thing for her mental health.

Yet generally speaking, she'll be the first person to see the bright side of things, or to try and make a joke (if the situation deems it appropriate, of course), or just offer a hug to someone who needs it. It's really hard to categorize what she is; one moment she'll be like a silly little sister, the next she'll be the big sister giving a reality check, and then she'll be the mother prepared with cookies and some self esteem boosting phrases. Once you have this girl as a friend, she'll always have a shoulder to cry on and some sort of tasty comfort food available for you.

Derica's wardrobe is a varied one indeed; one day she'll be wearing a pink dress and the cutest sandals and the next she'll be wearing her RENT tee with ripped jeans and sneakers. One thing that remains constant is her ability to accessorize; she's got a wide array of hats, jewelry and anything else you can think of. It's not even like she's trying to be trendy or fashionable. She just likes to try different looks.
