Cassander was out for his usual morning run, the the cool air nipping at his exposed skin, as he was wearing nothing but workout shorts a wifebeater tank top and a sweatband, that also served the purpose of keeping his much-treasured hair out of his eyes. There was running shoes on his feet, which he quite liked, for he could move in them well and they gave him about an inch of height. He was clutching an ipod in one hand, the earbuds in his ears.
His elegant, willowy form moved through Central Park, running past the occasional fellow jogger as his feet sought out a familiar, well-beaten path. He liked to say he did this every day (when in reality he did this four to five times a week). He was doing rather well for a college student, not that he had any choice. If he wanted to stay competitive as a performer, he had to keep fit.

Julia had gone to the stable in Central Park where she kept her horse quite early. After a few laps of of the spacious indoor arena, Julia decided to go outside and enjoy the morning in the Park. There was nothing in the world that Julia loved more than her flaxen chestnut Arabian mare. Her show name was Moonlight Dream, but Julia called her Dream. But neither horse nor girl had competed since the day her parents had died. Her brother hadn't either, even though that had also been the day he had won the junior division of the Rolex Kentucky, the most prestigious Three-Day-Eventing competition in the entire United States. He was good, and he had that competitive edge that Julia never had. Sure, she had enjoyed competing, but she did not have that drive to win like her brother, and his brilliant but ill-tempered stallion, Fire on Water. Though everyone called him Demon. The horse was a menace. But he was good. Julia had never seen a horse that could jump like Demon, nor one that loved it as much. She reminded herself to stop by and give the big Quarter horse stallion a carrot when she and Dream had finished their ride.
Julia couldn't help smiling widely and she shifted her weight slightly and pushed Dream into a slow canter. Gravel flew up from the mare's hooves as they made their way down the path. She closed her eyes and felt the breeze on her face. If she hadn't closed her eyes, she might have seen the man jogging along the path towards him. It was Dream who saw him and let out a warning neigh, slowing herself to a trot, then a walk. Julia opened her eyes, wondering why Dream had slowed. Then she saw the man. Pulling her right rein slightly, she tried the maneuver Dream off the path and out of the way. But she had been too distracted to notice that Dream had been moving the other direction. It was then that something, Julia wasn't quite sure what, spooked the flighty mare. The horse reared up, nearly tossing Julia from the saddle. The girl only managed to stay aboard by quickly grabbing her mare's mane.
But now they were stopped right in the middle of the path, directly in front of the jogger.

Cassander put on his brakes and came skidding to a stop in front of the girl with the horse, but the animal reared up onto its hind legs. Cassander's hands flew up in the air instinctively, as if he could somehow stop the half-ton beast from throwing its rider and crushing him beneath its hooves.
"Woah there, sorry about that." He called up at her, carefully moving around the horse, keeping his distance and then some. "Beautiful animal." He added, as he nervously skirted its rear. "I used to foxhunt." He added, his idea of making friendly conversation, as he edged around the horse's rear. "Well, wouldn't want to keep you from your gallivanting, see ya!" He said, barely recognizing her from school as he turned tail and started to do the bravest thing he'd done all day: run away.

Julia smiled down at the jogger. Her smile grew when he complimented her horse. Dream was her pride and joy and Julia loved to hear that people appreciated her beauty as much as she did. Julia had never foxhunted herself, and a small frown marred her features momentarily at the thought of hurting foxes, or any animal. But then the jogger took off. Julia wanted to keep talking to him, so without thinking about scaring him, she squeezed Dream and guided the horse to trot swiftly beside the jogger.
"Hey, you go to Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Academy, right? I think I've seen you around. I'm Julia Estonia." Julia called to him, over the noise of Dream's hooves, hoping the man heard her.

He halted in his tracks when she mentioned the name of the school, the name that was almost like a password to the special life that they all shared. He had no doubt that there were other schools that catered to people...like them, but no school quite like this one: a school that kept the gifted and the immortal safe while offering the finest education in the arts.
"Actually, I do. I'm a musical theater major." Cassander said, turning around and taking a few cautious steps toward the ginger and her horse, though he took care to keep some distance from the palomino. "I'm Cassander," He said, before casting a furtive look around him and lowering his voice, "son of Apollo."
